| John began his stint at powered flying in 1984, having started with gliders at age 13 in 1970. Without a doubt he had a real talent for flying so it was not a big surprise when he went solo in under 8 hours. Not exactly a record but still pretty impressive, though his early experience with gliders was surely also a factor. All told, his log book records over 60 hours of flight, more than half as Pilot-in-Command. Not in his log book were the "joy" flight in the Tiger Moth down at the Gold Coast and the flight from Archerfield in the left seat of a Cessna 182 on his 50th birthday. |
